When an individual initiated the trademark registration process, it is important that he/she be aware of the associated waiting period. Trademark registration can take from eight months to one year to successfully complete. In order to initiate the trademark registration process, an individual must complete all of the necessary paperwork and submit this paperwork to United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), in addition to the required filing fee.
This fee can range significantly. However, an individual should expect to pay a few hundred dollars to register his/her trademark. Subsequently it will take a few months before an attorney reviews an individual’s paperwork.
Once this initial application is approved, a 30 day waiting period will begin. During this 30 day period, any individual or organization can oppose the trademark by contacting the USPTO. Following the expiration of this period, if the trademark has not been opposed, it will be issued to the applicant.
