The TRIPS Agreement might more formally be identified as the Agreement on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights and is under the authority of the World Trade Organization (WTO). The TRIPS Agreement is for the sake of protecting the stake in intellectual property rights and dates back to 1994 to the session of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), known as the Uruguay Round.
Adherents to this diplomatic agreement accordingly hold themselves to the requirement for a certain base level of enforcement for protecting rights of authors, broadcasters and performers. The Agreement provides the means through which TRIPS Agreement rules can be enforced, through which violations can be answered, and through which TRIPS Agreement disputes can be settled.
Moreover, the TRIPS Agreement has subsequently been reformed through the Doha Declaration, which was also passed through the WTO, particularly with regard to protecting general access to medicine.
